Convex Mirror Paintings CONVEX TIKI Tangaroa #6

CONVEX TIKI Tangaroa #6

£1,007.00

I absolutely enjoyed creating this artwork as I was experimenting with different colourways with alcohol inks on a convex mirror film which is an exciting medium to work with. This artwork only comes in 60cm diameter by 10cm deep convex film structure and is my interpretation of Tangaroa the god of the sea, it was important to make offerings to him before setting out for travel or fishing. The contention between Tangaroa and Tāne Mahuta, the father of birds, trees, and humans, is an indication that the Māori thought of the ocean and the land as opposed realms.
