Convex Mirror Paintings Maunga Tipuna Mirror

Maunga Tipuna Mirror

£1,007.00

I absolutely enjoyed creating this artwork as I was experimenting with different colourways with alcohol inks on a convex mirror film which is an exciting medium to work with. This artwork only comes in 60cm diameter by 10cm deep convex film structure. I have memories of being inside the marae in Mangatu at my mother’s tangi. The kaumatua were talking to the carving of Rawiri Tamanui. Whilst they spoke, I knew I was a part of something; I also knew I was disconnected from it because of my lack of te reo. Creating this reflective piece about Rawiri Tamanui has allowed me to discover my ancestry and feel pride in reconnecting to my whakapapa. The reflection is part of the journey. Rawiri Tamanui was a great Maori warrior, he was a fighter, leader and chief of Nga Ariki Kaiputahi.
